Getting Under Your Skin

As it turns out, having a brand name with a coincidental correspondence to Michael Cera isn’t all Superbad.

Recently, the internet has been convinced that awkward actor Michael Cera is the secret mogul mastermind for the cosmetic company CeraVe—let us explain. Cera has taken TikTok by storm as he’s been spotted posing, autographing, and plugging CeraVe skincare products around New York City. Why? We don’t know (and neither does CeraVe), but that hasn’t stopped the brand from cashing in on, well, Cera’s skin.

Ever since the viral cosmetic commotion, CeraVe has implemented social media advertisements, website updates, and general PSA’s acknowledging and appreciating Cera’s brand loyalty. Thanks to the actor’s actions, CeraVe has gained a healthy amount of user-generated content while simultaneously squashing the rumors that he has anything to do with the company. In fact, just visiting the CeraVe website prompts a petty pop-up that reads, “Cera stands for Ceramides, not Michael Cera.”

So, while it’s safe to say that Michael Cera doesn’t have any skin in the cosmetic game, we’ve still got to hand it to CeraVe for taking advantage of the situation and popping this bit.
