Fearless Flying

I mean, when you’ve got a gig in Tokyo and your boyfriend is playing in the Super Bowl, of course you’re going to generate some carbon emissions—

that’s something Spiritus® knows “All Too Well”. 🎶

As Taylor Swift flew from Japan to the US, the lesser-known carbon removal startup company, Spiritus, pledged to shake off and eliminate the carbon emissions generated by her private jet. After crunching the numbers, Spiritus estimated that Taylor’s Version of the 12-hour, 5,500-mile trip generated about 40 tons of carbon emissions. Using their proprietary technology to pull CO2 from the atmosphere, the company decided to “Speak Now” and capitalize later, spending a total of $28,000 to offset the flight.

With such global attention on Taylor Swift, the effort has drummed up some significant buzz—not only for Spiritus but also for the carbon removal industry as a whole. It works, not only thanks to a big name like T-Swizzle but also because it directly correlates to the company’s mission. (So, if you’re looking to piggyback off a celeb name, we advise sticking to your core values.) It’s also worth mentioning that the whole stunt only cost Spiritus .4% of what a typical 30-second Super Bowl spot does.

“Call It What You Want,” but we’ll call it brilliant.
