It Ain’t Easy Being Green

“The perfect partner should have a kind heart, a great sense of humor, and most importantly, a blue hue on their sent text messages.” – Your Typical Single iPhone® User (probably)

The dating scene can be a tricky one to navigate, especially if you’re an Android® user shooting your shot over SMS. The Google-owned company recognizes this concern and has partnered with comedian Ziwe Fumudoh to highlight the stigma against the gaudy green text bubbles. Making use of interviews with real singles, Android aims to break the bubble bias and prove that love transcends the color of your admirer’s text messages.

During this month of love, and following Apple’s recent announcement of adopting Rich Communication Services (RCS), a more advanced version of SMS for smoother messaging between iPhones and Androids, the campaign comes at a critical time for green text-sending singles. In fact, this may be the start of more mobile marketers leveraging RCS as a better means of reaching consumers instead of tried-and-true SMS messaging. As for us, we salute the campaign. This is another tool we can use in our arsenal of marketing.

And, like any good relationship, communication should be seamless and secure—rather than leaving you feeling green.
