Many big brands are going green, but rarely does one reduce, reuse, and recycle their own advertisements.
Mars Inc., the parent company of M&M’s® and Ben’s Original™, has decided to turn a greener leaf and combat climate change by lifting and shifting some of their popular ads. Coined the “Healthy Planet Productions” campaign, Mars is revamping their existing creative with new voiceovers and simple, less emission-intensive animation to deliver hopeful messages about climate action.
Following an international survey, Mars found that 69% of adults want businesses to focus on sustainability, but it’s not always clear what companies are doing to deliver real change. So, by removing the need for travel, filming, set production, (and the Red M&M’s dressing room), Mars was able to raise consumer awareness around climate action while showing off how they’re contributing directly to it.
Maybe the best way to go green is to stick to what’s golden; just don’t be surprised when the M&M’s begin advocating how they “Melt in Your Mouth, Not in the Landfill!”
